Welcome to the Treehouse
What is a writers’ workshop?
A writers’ workshop is a group setting designed for writers and other creatives to share their work and ideas. All members of the workshop take turns reading one another's writing and offering feedback. Writers’ workshops are an important part of what is otherwise a solitary journey, and give writers a place to learn more about their strengths and blind spots as a writer, expose themselves to new kinds of writing, try different approaches, and meet new people.
What makes Treehouse workshops different?
They’re fun! And not in an embarrassing, company mandated ropes-course, let’s all try and have fun, kind of way. Everyone here believes that good writing is joyful, and that joy isn’t something we feel in spite of the world but because it’s the only way to get through it. We also believe that we get through it by walking together, side by side. Our workshops and writing sessions are informal, safe, relaxed, occasionally silly, and accepting of all walks of life. We like to swear! No topic is off-limit, and that’s a promise. No matter what we choose to write about, at the heart of our story, we are always writing about our own personal truths and because of that, we make it our purpose to provide a space to share stories that is completely accepting, safe, and kind.
We offer an open-ended, general workshop for all styles of writing or other art, as well as workshops in novel-writing, genre fiction, and storytelling that are more form-specific, but all are open and welcoming to every level of writer AND any kind of creative. Seriously! Just starting out, with no idea how to start or what to write? Come on up. Have you been writing for years and need a community of like-minded people to commiserate with about the ups and downs of the writing process, or find calls for submission? Pull up a beanbag. Registration to any workshop includes membership to our morning co-writing sessions, so pour yourself a cup of coffee, wrap that blanket around your shoulders, and join some friends to keep yourself accountable and meet your word count. We also invite ALL creatives and welcome every kind of artist. If you’re looking for a new group of friends to hash your ideas out with, or to share a new thing that you’re just trying out, we want to see it/hear it/learn all about it.
Creativity is your birthright. So is community.
You belong here.
